DRMA Shoptalk, brought to you by the DRMA Associate Board, allows members to get together for a little “overtime” after work. Enjoy the casual atmosphere while learning something new and networking with your DRMA peers!
DRMA members can expect a lot of changes in how government interacts with private-sector businesses under the Trump administration. One of the hottest areas of concern involves the freedom to present employees with non-competition agreements, either at the time of hire or midstream during their employment. The Federal Trade Commission under the last administration was hostile toward these agreements and remains in litigation over proposed new regulations prohibiting most of them. Come to Shoptalk to learn from management-side employment lawyer Debbie Brenneman from Thompson Hine about how the incoming president is likely to view non-competition rights at the federal level and how the laws of Ohio and other states continue to create roadblocks for these types of agreements even if the federal rule falls by the wayside. We will also be hearing from Attorney Marc Fleischauer from Taft on the nationwide wave of workplace raids and audits currently being initiated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Focusing on concrete steps employers should take to ensure compliance with immigration law today, and he will focus on protecting company rights in the event ICE knocks on the door tomorrow.​
