MFG Day Goes Virtual!

In planning the 2020 MFG Day, our sub-committee has reached out to schools and industries regarding the potential to attend and host field trips. We have found that schools face a great deal of uncertainty regarding the health precautions they will take as well as how often they will be in session. These unknowns and new and evolving health guidelines at our businesses make facilitating “face to face” visits particularly challenging this year. Given the extenuating circumstances, we will not facilitate our normal field trips to businesses on the upcoming MFG Day (though your business is welcome to invite students for face to face visits if you are able to safely host).

We believe the need to expose students to the manufacturing industry is more important than ever and plan to offer virtual manufacturing exploration this year in lieu of our normal field trips. As we research and develop engaging online content for students, we are focusing on our goals to dispel myths about and highlight the great opportunities our industry offers. We hugely appreciate the time and energy you and your staff spend engaging with students and we look forward to working with you more closely in upcoming years. We will reach out regarding less-involved ways to represent our businesses virtually this year.

If you are still planning to hold an in-person event, please note that NAM has created a new website for 2020. You can find MFG Day info at www.creatorswanted.org. If you plan to open your doors to students, I recommend you register your event on this site. I will still be available to help with school “match making” but please know that we expect our student participation to be down this year, particularly in Montgomery County. If you are planning to hold an in-person event, please let me know.
